Very rare Hebrew halachic correspondence by Rabbi Hirsch, dated 5th Tishri 5640 [1879] and addressed to Rabbi Moshe Leib Hacohen, Av Beth Din of Nikolsburg. Most of Rabbi Hirsch’s letters and manuscripts are in German.

Rabbi Shamshon Raphael Hirsch (1808-1889), disciple of Chacham Yitzchak Bernais of Hamburg and Rabbi Yakov Ettlinger of Altona. Rabbi of Oldenburg (1830), Aurich (1841) and Nikolsburg (1846), from where he was called to serve as Rabbi by a small group of strictly orthodox Jews in Frankfurt. In Frankfurt and in his earlier positions he fought vigorously for traditional orthodoxy and authored important works defending Torah principles. He also established schools and an orthodox Jewish newspaper to campaign for a strengthening and restoration of orthodox Jewish life in Germany. Author of Nineteen Letters, Torah Commentary, and Shemesh Umarpeh.
