Early edition. Misrash Rabba on Chumash Bereshis with the Yeffeh To'ar Commentary by Rabbi Shmuel Yaffeh Ashkenazi, second edition (of Yeffeh To'ar), Prague, 1689.
This early edition of the Midrash was printed with the Yeffeh To'ar Commentary (one of the basic commentaries on the Midrash) by Rabbi Shmuel Yaffe Ashkenazi one of the sages of Turkey (1525-1595) was born in Bursa to his father Rabbi Yitzchak. Some claimed that he was a relative of the author of the Malbushim and of the Bach. Was the disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak ben Lev and of Rabbi Shlomo Elkabetz. Since 1564, he served as the Rav of the Ashkenzaic community of Kushta and gave many sermons in its Basei Midrash. In addition to this commentary on the Midrash by him, Rabbi Shmuel authored several additional compositions. The Sefer has two title pages, the second is one designated for the commentary. Original leather binding.
An ancient notation on the title page: "...Moshe Hertzerg..." and a faded notation on the last leaf. Appearing on the title page is a stamp of the censor.
