From the desk of the Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth, the Admo"r of Dej and author of Ma’agalei Tzedek.
Three items from the Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Dej
1) Two handwritten leaves filled with chiddushim.
The first leaf has writing on both sides (44 lines on one side; 14 on the other). Chiddushim on tractate Bava Metzia, concerning a proof (page 66), including a debate of the opinion of the Pnei Yehoshua on this issue.
The second leaf, also written on both sides (38 lines on one side; 39 on the other) contains chiddushim on tractate Bava Batra on the matter of a hechsher for a mikve (page 66)
2) A letter to Rabbi Menachem Mendel from Rabbi Akiva Lehrn (1795-1865), from 1861. In the margins of the letter are notations in the handwriting of Rabbi Menachem Mendel (10 lines). This letter is apparently a draft of a letter (unsigned) regarding a get arranged by a particular rabbi, and which Rabbi Menachem Mendel deems is invalid, for several reasons.
3) Another letter to Rabbi Menachem Mendel, from 1864, concerning funds for Eretz Israel.
The tzaddik and Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth, the Admo"r of Dej (1818-1885) was the second son of the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Paneth, author of Mar’eh Yechezkel. Rabbi Menachem Mendel studied Torah first with his father and then in the Pressburg Yeshiva, under the Gaon the Chatam Sofer. Rabbi Menachem Mendel’s book, Ma’agalei Tzedek is a Chassidic perspective on the Torah.
Fine condition. Preserved.
