Rare Kabbala Book: Shomer Emunim by Rabbi Yosef Igeres. With Rabbi Emanual Chai Rikki’s Approbation. Amsterdam, 1736. First Edition.

This book is one of the most fundamental books for Kabbala study.
Includes an introduction – with two debates on the matter of Kabbala study, as well as the Kabbalistic rulings as per the Arizal’s writings and Kabbala responsa, by Rabbi Yosef Igeres. The book is structured on a dialogue between two people on the subject of the correct approach for Kabbala study. This is a window to Rabbi Emanual Chai Rikki’s outlook on Kabbala. Two title pages. The first is impressively decorated with copperplate engravings. Additional title page for the introduction to Pesachim.

Rabbi Yosef Igeres (1685-1730) was born in Livorno and studied in the prominent Yeshiva of Rabbi Shmuel di Fez. He studied Kabbala under Rabbi Binyamin HaKohen Vital who was a disciple of Rabbi Moshe Zechut. Rabbi Yosef subsequently relocated to Pisa, where he established Yeshivat Neve Shalom. He gained renown as an outstanding Talmid Chacham, and answered Halachic queries from throughout France and Italy. Some of his responses were printed in the book ‘Divrei Yosef’.
