[The Vladimir Mayakovsky Moscow academic theater (in 1922-1941 — the Revolution Theater, in 1941-1954-the Moscow drama theater) is one of the oldest drama theaters in Moscow. Founded in 1922, it is located on Bolshaya Nikitskaya street. At various times, the Directors were Vsevolod Meyerhold, Nikolai Gorchakov and Andrey Goncharov. The repertoire is based on performances based on works of Russian classical literature.

In 1919 in Vitebsk Aleksandr Sumarokov and Mikhail Reasonable has created a Theatre of revolutionary satire (Teresat): actors told the proletariat about political events and commented on them. The idea of its creation appeared due to the popularity of local satirical publications. During the year, the institution hosted more than 300 performances, and in April 1920, the troupe went to Moscow. Public viewing of the theater's program aroused interest and by the decision of the Moscow city Council, the Moscow theater of revolutionary satire was created under the direction of David Gutman. The troupe recruited artists of different genres, and several members of the Vitebsk collective also joined it. In the summer of 1920, the actors performed in various rooms and on tram platforms, and in the fall they received their own building at 19 Herzen street.the theater also included a choir, orchestra and ballet troupe, and the team was replenished with artists from operetta, variety and circus. The total number of participants was 350 people. The theater showed its first program on November 7, 1920, after which the troupe toured the Moscow region, Siberia and the Urals, and went to the front. Gradually, the theater's performances became more complex and no longer fit the previous satirical style of work, so its management appealed to the Moscow Department of public education with a request for reorganization. On June 26, 1922, the Moscow Soviet decided to disband terevsat And create the theater of the Revolution on its basis. Vsevolod Meyerhold was appointed Director and artistic Director.]
