The book was written by the Russian artist Alexander Alekseevich Borisov (1866-1934) - the first painter of the Arctic, a researcher of the polar lands, on the impressions of his expedition to the island of Vaygach in 1897. The main task pursued by the author - to explore the East coast of New Earth and to attract the attention of society, to write a series of paintings and show the public the beauty of the mysterious polar world.
