רבי משה אלשיך [רס"ז-ש"ס], מגדולי ישראל הבודדים שזכו להזכרת שמם בצירוף התואר 'קדוש'. מגדולי חכמי צפת בתור הזהב של העיר, תלמידם של רבי יוסף טאיטאצאק ורבי יוסף קארו, ורבו של רבי חיים ויטאל בתלמוד ובהלכה.
המחבר נפטר שנים אחדות לפני הדפסת הספר, ובנו רבי חיים אלשיך הוא זה שהביא את הספר לדפוס.
