Rabbi Meir was a rabbi, a posek, and Talmudic commentator, born in Lublin, Poland in 1558. His father Rabbi Gedaliah was the son of the kabbalist Rabbi Asher of Craka, The daughter of the head of the yeshiva and the head of the rabbinic court, Rabbi Yitzchak HaCohen Shapira, who moved to Lublin in 1582 with the intention of establishing a yeshiva there, and in 1587 returned to Cracow to replace his deceased father-in-law and was appointed Rosh Yeshiva and Av Beit Din. In 1595 he was appointed rabbi in Lvov, where he served until 1613, when he was forced to leave the rabbinate in the wake of the dispute over the Get from Vienna. He returned to Lublin, where he served as the city's rabbi until his death, on 16 Iyar 1616.
