A letter from the head of the Poniveze Yeshiva Hagon Rabbi David Pobarsky for a student in preparation for his wedding
עַל גּוֹזָלָיו יְרַחֵף
מכתב נאה, על גבי בלאנק צבעוני של ישיבת פונבז'. בחתימת יד קדשו של ראש הישיבה הגאון רבי דוד פוברסקי. קרית הישיבה בני ברק, תשנ"ח [1998].
המכתב ממוען אל מנהלי 'עזרת תורה' האמריקאית ובו בקשה לסיוע עבור תלמיד ישיבת פוניבז' במתן של "גמ"ח ומענק בסכום המקסימלי האפשרי לקראת סדורו הראשון בחיים".
ראש הישיבה הגאון רבי יהושע דוד פוברסקי [תרס"ב - תשנ"ט], מגדולי ראשי הישיבות בדור הקודם. כיהן כראש ישיבת פונביז' במשך למעלה מחמישים שנה. ממעתיקי השמועה של תקופת ההוד בישיבות ליטא שלפני המלחמה, בנערותו למד בישיבת סלוצק אצל רבי איסר זלמן מלצר זצ"ל ומשם המשיך למיר אל המשגיח רבי ירוחם ליבוביץ. למד גם בישיבת פוניבז' בליטא, אצל רבי יוסף שלמה כהנמן ובישיבת קלם אצל בנו של הסבא מקלם. בהמשך נחשב לחניך אסכולת קלם. לאחר מכן חזר לישיבת מיר, שם למד עד נישואיו בשנת תר"ץ - 1930. לאחר חתונתו הצטרף לכולל של הרב אלחנן וסרמן בברנוביץ' ולעיתים מסר שיעורים בישיבתו של הרב וסרמן. באותה עת הוציא לאור את חלקו הראשון של ספרו ישועת דוד. באלול תש"ד נענה להזמנת הרב כהנמן לכהן כראש ישיבה בישיבת פוניבז', לצד רבי שמואל רוזובסקי. יחד עמו הביא כמה תלמידים, בהם רבי מרדכי שלמה ברמן שלימים התמנה אף הוא לאחד מראשי הישיבה. בתפקיד זה כיהן עד שנתבקש לישיבה של מעלה.
