Rabbi Avraham David Horowitz ,(5672-5764) served as rabbi of the Landsberg and Augsburg communities in Germany, and was the rabbi of the ultra-Orthodox community in the city of Strasbourg, France, and Dayan at the court of the Eda Haredit in Jerusalem. He was born in the town of Bolechow in the Galicia region to Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Zalman Leib Friedlander, who was a Dayan in Peshawarsk and later served as the Av Beit Din in Bolechow. His maternal grandfather was Rabbi Aharon Meir, author of the book Avrech, a disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Eichenstein of Ziditchov. His mother Rasha was the daughter of Rabbi Pinchas Halevy Horowitz, the Av Beit Din in Kosow, author of the book "Petach Zuta" on the Talmud and one of the outstanding disciples of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. To live in the city of Grosswarden where he became close to Rabbi Yisrael Hagar (Ahavat Yisrael), the Admor of Vizhnitz, and became his student. Later he served as head of the Vizhnitz Yeshiva in Grosswardein. In 1934 he married Bracha, the daughter of Rabbi Eliezer Lipa Zilberman, the Admor of Ratzfert, and returned to Grosswarden, where he was appointed to serve as Dayan in the rabbinical court of Rabbi Pinchas Segal Zimtbaum, the rabbi of the town of Grosswardein. When World War II broke out he was taken to labor camps. His wife and five children were murdered by the Nazis. After the Holocaust he served as rabbi of Landsberg and Augsburg communities in Germany. He remarried to Nechama, the daughter of Rabbi Yechezkel Widman, one of the great Chassidim of Vizhnitz and the rabbi of the community of Sitschal, from which he had seven children. In 1947 he moved to Strasbourg, France, where he was appointed by Rabbi Avraham Deutsch to serve as Dayan and rabbi of the ultra-Orthodox community. A position he has served for more than 30 years. He also established and managed the Kashrut system in the city. In 1978 he immigrated to Israel and settled in the Bukharan neighborhood of Jerusalem. In 1980 he was appointed as Dayan and a member of the Badatz of the Edah HaCharedit, author of the book "Kinyan Torah in Halakha" and the book "Kinyan Torah in Shma'atta" on the order of the Torah portions.
