Letter of Rare Blessings from the Admo"r Rabbi Yisrael Friedman Boyan-Leipzig
Sacred letter with huge and rare blessings for a 60th birthday (a significant date) by the Admo"r Rabbi Yisrael Friedman of Boyan-Leipzig. Tel Aviv, 1946. Scribal script, with the Admo"r's signature at the end.
The rebbe blesses in his letter: "Heartfelt blessings upon [your] 60th birthday, may Hashem lengthen [your] days and years. May your days be increased and may you have added years of good, pleasant life until 120, with complete health and much spiritual pleasure. May the good G-d grant your heart's desire and may all your counsel be fulfilled." We will point out that the Rebbe emphasizes the first letters of the words "י'תן ל'ך כ'לבבך" for unknown reasons.
As is known, a sixtieth birthday has special significance in Jewish tradition. On this day, one leaves the possibility of dying by karet (the karet punishment is heaven-sent death before the age of sixty). The gemara even tells a story about the amora Rabbi Yosef who celebrated reaching sixty because "he had been removed from the possibility of karet" (Tractate Mo'ed Kattan, leaf 28).
It is important to note that in most letters, the Admo"r signs using his name and his father's name. In this rare letter, the Admo"r signs using his surname!
