"Der Heiliger Schuraner Rav": Rare Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Meir Leib Frei

"Thank you for your support for Torah institutions"

Beautiful letter entirely handwritten and signed by the Chatam Sofer's great-grandson, the sacred gaon Rabbi Meir Leib Frei, one of the gedolei hador of Hungary and author of Shevet Mishor, about whom the gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Erlau observed, "His prayers make their mark in Heaven." Schuran, 1936. Letters from him are rare.

The letter was sent to the Tomchei Torah organization in the United States led by Rabbi Dr. Eliyahu Jung and Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Friedman. In his letter, the av beit din of Schuran expresses his deep appreciation for the support and rescue funds sent for his yeshivah. He also extends his congratulations to Rabbi Jung in honor of his receiving the role of presidency, and blesses him "Thank you for your support of Torah institutions and the students who study Torah in poverty. The daily count of those who are losing their property is immeasurable, may Hashem have mercy."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Meir Yehudah Leib Frei, may his blood be avenged, av beit din of Schuran.
