The Tosefta on Seders Zera'im and Taharot with Hagahot HaGr"a - First Prints, Among the Earlier Sefarim by the Gr"a - Pedigree Copies from the Landau and Perlow Families

Tosefta on Seder Zera'im, with a commentary by Rabbi Yonah ben Gershon of Vilna, and with glosses by the Vilna Gaon. Vilna, 1799. First edition.

Printed on the title page: "With some glosses I found ... I heard they are from the late great pious gaon, the famous Eliyahu z"l ... from our community ..."  as he writes in his introduction: "... Hashem granted me some glosses in manuscript and I heard they are from the late great gaon ... Rabbeinu Eliyahu ztz"l from our community ..." Rabbi Yonah b"r Gershon was a dayan in Vilna.

With a lengthy introduction about the Gr"a by the commentator, with an "approbation from Vilna sages" (without names).

Several books have been written about these glosses and their origins, most recently by Rabbi Dovid Kaminetzky, Torat HaGr"a pp. 398-400.

One of the first of the Gr"a's sefarim to be printed. One of the first sefarim to be printed in Vilna, at a press established that year.

With Rabbi Yehudah Perlow's stamps.

Taharat HaKodesh - Tosefta Seder Taharot with a commentary by Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna [the Gr"a]. Zolkiew, 1804. First edition.

First edition of the Gr"a's commentary, printed just a few years after the Gr"a's passing. The editor, Rabbi Meir of Vilna, writes about this in his foreword: I have not left the tents of our rabbi's Torah, those of the pious and renowned gaon, Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna zlh"h. However, the Gr"a's sons objected to this commentary.

Vinograd,  Sifrei HaGr"a, 281. Dinstag, 281.

Signatures - "Shmuel Landau" "Chaim Ya'akov Landau" - apparently signatures by the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Landau - son-in-law of Rabbi Itzeleh of Volozhin, and his son Rabbi Chaim Ya'akov of Mohilev. Rabbi Chaim Yosef's novellae were printed in the sefer Chayyei Ya'akov.
