First Known Letter from the Ga'ava"d of the Edah HaChareidit, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Tuviah Weiss, Just after his Wedding

"May Hashem grant [me] the privilege of entering the doors of Torah all the days of my life, and to arise ever higher in Torah and fear of Heaven. This will be the reward and joy for my teachers, may they be well, who took such trouble to bring me to this point, on the path of Torah and fear of Heaven ..."

Touching and beautiful letter handwritten by the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Tuviah Weiss, later ga'ava"d of the Edah HaChareidit, sent to his teacher the gaon Rabbi Zeidel Siemiatycki, head of the Torah Emet "Schneider's" yeshivah in London, following his wedding, expressing appreciation for his years of study at the yeshivah, where he rose in his spiritual level, all the way up to his marriage. Gateshead, 1951. To the best of our knowledge, this is the earliest letter from the ga'ava"d ever offered at auction.

The gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Tuviah Weiss opens his letter with grand titles due to his immense admiration of the addressee: "To my honorable and respected teacher and rabbi, the great gaon , famous for his Torah and good deeds, who teaches and glorifies Torah ... I hereby express to my honorable teacher, may [he] be well, and to the Rebbetzin, our feelings of appreciation for taking part in our wedding, and especially for the beautiful celebratory meal held in [your] home ..."

Later on in the letter, Rabbi Weiss apologizes for the delay in writing the letter, which was due to his being busy with arranging his things and other matters shortly after his wedding "especially because we began studying Tractate Zevachim at kollel [the rabbinic kollel in Gateshead] immediately following sheva berachos."

At the end of the letter, Rabbi Weiss blesses himself, "May Hashem grant me the privilege of entering the doors of Torah all the days of my life, and to arise ever higher in Torah and fear of Heaven. This will be the reward and joy for my teachers, may they be well, who took such trouble to bring me to this point, on the path of Torah and fear of Heaven ..." This blessing was clearly fully materialized, to the extent that he was appointed to the lofty position of mara d'ar'a Yisrael, a position in which giants of the generations preceded him.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Tuviah Weiss and of the addressee, the gaon Rabbi Zeidel Siemiatycki.
