Letter Loaded with Blessings Signed by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook and the Author of "Kol HaTor"

Beautiful letter loaded with blessings signed by two of the tzaddikim and sacred of the generation, the chief rabbi of the Land of Israel, the gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, and the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel Margaliot, av beit din of Vishneva, author of Kol HaTor. Rechovot [and Jerusalem, 1920s].

The letter is entirely handwritten by the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel Margaliot. His signature is followed by that of the gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook [on the back of the leaf] expressing his agreement. The letter is addressed to Mr. Chavash, gabbai of the Moshav Zkeinim institution in Jerusalem, with the rabbis' request to accept R' Moshe b"r Eliyahu HaKohen of Slutzk into the home for the aged.

Rabbi Margaliot relates in his letter that the aforementioned R' Moshe arrived with the pioneers who came from Slutzk, Russia, to the Land of Israel. He is no longer young, he is over sixty years old "and he is weak from all the labor and lacking from the beginning of the world churban to this day ... He is also an upright person, a ben Torah who cannot endure the way of the youths who are currently arriving, due to the multitude of our transgressions, to the Land ..." as to whether he can be taken under the wings of the old age home - even to work there - to give Torah lessons, to assist with various jobs, "He will be good for them and they will be good for him."

The margins of this letter are filled with blessings from the rabbis: "May this mitzvah of tzeddakah and lovingkindness stand by us and our children forever, with neither breach nor wailing until Hashem builds and Jerusalem is praised in the Land and we are privileged to behold Hashem's House on Mount Moriah ... Yehoshua Heschel Margaliot ... the small one, Avraham Yitzchak."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel Margaliot, rabbi of Vishneva, Lithuania,  and the gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook.
