Collection of [3] Successive Letters of Responsa between the L'Flagot Reuven and the Chelkat Aharon

Group of three important responsa letters [5 large pages], correspondence between two Lithuanian gedolim, Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, av beit din of Kalvarija and later ga'ava"d of the Edah HaChareidit in Jerusalem; and the gaon Rabbi Aharon Milevsky, av beit din of Alita, Lithuania, later chief rabbi of Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. Kalvarija/Alita, Kislev-Tevet 1936-7. Not printed.

* The first letter was sent from Rabbi Bengis in Kislev, 1936 as a response to several deep questions on marriage-related issues that Rabbi Milevsky had asked him. Rabbi Bengis resolves each of his uncertainties one by one. This follows Rabbi Bengis' many expressions of humility, as was his way, including, "I have already told the rabbis many times that I do not want to take on the role of responder to practical halachic questions [and it was exactly this fear of rabbinic instruction that led to his appointment as leading practical halachic posek, in the role of ga'ava"d of the Edah HaChareidit!!].

* The second letter is from Rabbi Milevsky, containing a reply to the above responsum from Rabbi Bengis.

* The third letter is an additional, final letter on the topic from Rabbi Bengis, with a response to Rabbi Milevsky's reply, itself a reply to Rabbi Bengis's original responsum to Rabbi Milevsky's initial question [not included here, but its content is mentioned in the first letter].

Never-printed series of interesting and sequential letters dealing with deep and serious halachahs of marriage by two of Lithuania's Torah giants whose Torah spread throughout the world.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis and the gaon Rabbi Aharon Milevsky.
