Signed dedication from the grandfather, Rabbi Yitzchak Yehudah Leib, to his son-in-law Rabbi Chaim Plaut, father of Rabbi Chizkiyah Feivel: "HaK' Itzik Leib ... I gave it to my son-in-law R' Chaim Plaut ... of Cologne.
In his introduction to the sefer, Chever Ben Chaim, Rabbi Chizkiyah Feivel relates the events of his youth, and says about his grandfather: "My maternal grandfather was a teacher who brought me up from the age of three onward. He taught me the prayers, and began to study chumash with me before I turned four, and before I turned five, he started teaching me gemara and various other topics ... "
