FERMI ENRICO: (1901-1954) Italian Physicist, also known as the ''Architect of the nuclear age'' or ''Architect of the atomic bomb''. Fermi was the creator of the world´s first nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile-1. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1938 for his works on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment. Fermi coined the name ''neutrino'', and the particles that obey the exclusion principle are called ''fermions'' after him. Fermi worked on the Manhattan Project during WWII. Rare A.L.S., `Enrico Fermi´, two pages, 4to, Rome, 24th April 1929, on the ''Istituto Di Fisica della Universita di Roma'' letterhead, to a Doctor, in Italian. A cleanly written letter by Fermi, asking several questions to his correspondent, and stating in part `What is the net compensation, inclusive of travel expenses, for Professor Michele Cantone of the Royal University of Naples for only one session held in Rome?..´, further asking similar question regarding Senator Professor Antonio Garbasso at the University of Florence. In excellent condition. EX
