Letter dated 1840 in which the Rabbi of Slutzk appeals to the Rabbi of Minsk to help R. Isaac Birnhak, the emissary of the impoverished Jews of Slutzk, to raise funds in Minsk for their relief. With three sides of Torah novellae by an unidentified writer.
LETTERS FROM RABBI AKIVA ALTSHULER ARE EXTREMELY RARE.
RABBI AKIVA ALTSHULER (c. 1760-1845), Rabbi of Slutzk, studied under Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov – Pe’as Hashulchan. Son-in-law of I. Rabbi Yehoshua of Kapulia II. R. Shmuel of Bobroisk, where he opened a Yeshiva at the request of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Slutzk.
RABBI DAVID TEVEL (1794-1861), one of the greatest disciples of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. Rabbi of Stubitz and Minsk, and considered one of the leading rabbinical figures of his time, and author of classic rabbinic works Nachalas David and Divrei David.
