JOHN F. KENNEDY
(1917 - 1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. T.L.S. 'John Kennedy' as president, signed with a signature very reminiscent of his autopen signature of the period, but absolutely not matching any patterns in our files, 1p. 4to. on White House letterhead, Feb. 27, 1961 to Prof. Willard Thorp (1899-1992), an economist who served as an advisor to Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower and who helped draft the Marshall Plan. Kennedy thanks Thorp for his assistance as part of a 'task force' appointed to appraise policy questions. He adds: '...the work was done on a crash basis, and it must have required considerable adjustment of your plans...you services have mad...a better program for the nation...' Pencil docket in margin, else very good. Because of ambiguity with signature, sold as-is and estimated accordingly.
