JOSEPH KENNEDY, SR.
(1888 – 1969) American businessman, investor and politician known for his high-profile positions in government and for the political and other achievements of his children. Father of assassinated President John F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Palm Beach, Jan. 6, 1945 to John G. Erhardt, ex-Consul in Hamburg who also served as a consular official under Kennedy while the latter was Ambassador to the United Kingdom. In part: '...I don't knoiw whether or not this part of the country is out of the world of news but I had not seen that you were going of as Political Adviser to General [Mark] Clark. It was one of the happiest notes I have had for a long time...if Clark is a man who can use good hard common sense without the dilly-dallying od the ordinary State Department official, he will have his diplomatic business made easier...have [Clark] write me...' With receiving docket at bottom. Very good.
