MAMIE DOUD EISENHOWER (1896 - 1979) First Lady, wife of Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States. Lot of five T.L.S.s 'Mamie Doud Eisenhower' as First Lady on White House letterhead, each 1p. 8vo., Washington, 1959-60, to White House Chief Usher James B. West and other ushers. In part: 'Thank you all for your thought of us during this recent sad time...I appreciate deeply your many kindnesses to Mother...These lovely flowers...have done much to brighten my spirits during this illness...You are always so kind to remember my birthday...I am extremely fond of the candy...so pleased to receive the beautiful card of good wishes for our wedding anniversary...our celebration at the Farm was wonderful...your beautiful gift...our lovely mahogany cabinet...has already been installed at the Farm...I want again to express my gratitude to each of you personally for you loyalty and devotion to me and my family throughout these eight years....'
