RABBI CHAIM WOLKIN, ROSH YESHIVA OF THE FAMOUS VOLOZHIN – APPEAL TO RABBI TZVI HIRSH FERBER, ON BEHALF OF THE VOLOZHIN YESHIVA.

Rabbi Wolkin, the last Rosh Yeshiva of the famous Yeshiva of Volozhin before the Holocaust, appeals to Rabbi Ferber to support the fundraising efforts in London for the Volozhin Yeshiva. He informs him that Rabbi Unterman of Liverpool is sending a fundraiser to London on behalf of the Volozhin Yeshiva and asks Rabbi Ferber to do whatever possible to support ‘the mother of the Yeshivos’.

Rabbi Chaim Wolkin (1898-1941), son of Rabbi Ahron of Pinsk and Karlin, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin. He succeeded his father-in-law as Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin, and was the last to hold that prestigious position.

Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Ferber (1879-1966), was born in Lithuania and studied under Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor of Kovno, Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer and Rabbi Naftali Amsterdam. He was a leading rabbinical scholar and leader in London, heading an independent community in the West End and leading the Hisachdus Harabanim in England. First Rosh Yeshiva of Manchester Yeshiva and later heading the Etz Chayim Yeshiva in London. Talented speaker and author of 14 rabbinic works, including Kerem Hatzvi.
