Handwritten fragment of Pablo Neruda’s memoirs Confieso que he vivido. Memorias, which was published posthumously. The fragment is part of chapter 12 of the book, entitled “Patria dulce y dura” (Sweet and tough homeland). Description of Salvador Allende. In Isla Negra, Neruda wrote this dramatic testament to the bloody coup d’etat in Chile. This may be the last document written by the poet before his death. Just nine days later, on the 23rd September, Neruda died at the Santa Maria clinic in Santiago.
